"No other photographer has ever made me feel more relaxed."
Kim Zahnow is hands down my favorite photographer.
She has photographed my family pictures, maternity pictures and senior pictures for 2 of my 9 kids (#3 is next year!).
No other photographer has ever made me feel more relaxed and natural while taking pictures and I am never disappointed with the results. I recommend her every time someone I know says they are looking for a photographer. ~Cindy Faubert

What do we wear?
When planning what to wear for a family portrait, consider clothing that is both comfortable and practical while still looking stylish. Soft, breathable fabrics such as linen or cotton are great choices especially for the beach. Light colors such as pastels or white can help create a beachy, summery vibe. Do not all wear the same color or you may look like a large blob in your photograph. Mix and match 3 complimentary colors if you wish. Avoid clothing with patterns that are too loud or busy, as it can be distracting. Open-toed shoes, sandals, or flip-flops are ideal for sandy terrain. Accessorize with hats, sunglasses, or beachy jewelry to add some personality and interest to the photos. Overall, aim for a laid-back, comfortable look that will allow you to relax and have fun while capturing special memories with your loved ones.
-Make sure everyone in the photo is wearing colors that coordinate and styles that complement each other.
-Avoid large or bold patterns as they can be distracting in a photo. Opt for smaller, subtle designs or solid colors instead.
-Keep in mind the season and time of day of the portrait. Lighter colors work well in the summer or during the daytime, while darker colors are more appropriate for fall or evening portraits.
What location should we go for our family portraits?
Saugatuck, Michigan is a picturesque town on the shores of Lake Michigan with plenty of great locations for family portraits. I do travel outside of the area but here are some local suggestions:
1. Oval Beach: This scenic beach is a top spot for family photos, with soft sand, dunes, and stunning views of Lake Michigan.
2.Downtown Saugatuck: The downtown area is filled with charming shops, boutiques, and galleries, making it ideal for capturing some candid family shots.
3. Saugatuck Dunes State Park: This vast park offers miles of hiking trails and secluded spots for family photos in a natural setting.
3. Butler Street: This iconic street in downtown Saugatuck is lined with quaint shops and historic buildings, making it a great spot for capturing some classic family portraits.
5. Red Doc: This quant spot on the Kalamazoo river has a little red light house, docks, and iconic scenes of Saugatuck across the water.
6. Douglas Beach: Stair access to the beauty of lake Michigan.
Regardless of where you choose to take your family portraits in Saugatuck, be sure to capture some shots that showcase the town's natural beauty and unique character.
